CMOS is the memory chip that is located on the motherboard which stores the BIOS settings, for example, the features of motherboard, RAM, FDD, date and time. CMOS has a size of 64 bits. When the system starts, the BIOS load the settings from the CMOS. CMOS requires a power source to store the settings. It receives power from the battery that is installed on the motherboard. This battery must be replaced when it becomes weak or you may lose the stored BIOS settings.
